Background reading

The ultimate source of all United States law is the U.S. Constitution, you need a basic understanding of this document before we begin.  Luckily it is pretty short and succinct. You can find an annotated copy here:  US CONSTITUTION AND BILL OF RIGHTS

Download and read the US Government publication "Outline of the US Legal System".  Pay special attention to the first three chapters, and be sure to read the US Constitution and its ammendments, which are included at the end of the document.

The cybernetic revolution and the explosion of the internet have affected every aspect of our society and culture, including law and the legal profession.

Here are some of the areas in which developments in information technology are having a direct influence on the legal system:

CyberlawLinks

The OpenCourt experiment in Massachusetts could be clearing a path toward a more accessible court. The project, run by National Public Radio-affiliate WBUR and funded by the Knight News Challenge, is providing a live video stream of all public hearings and trials in the Quincy District Court.
